History of Diplomatic Relations
The People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria officially recognized the independence of the Republic of Tajikistan on 10 January 1992. Diplomatic relations between the two States were established on 10 July 1997.
On 4 February 2025, Akram Karimi was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, with residence in Riyadh.
On 31 January 2025, Muhammed Irki was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to the Republic of Tajikistan, with residence in Tashkent.
Political Cooperation
During the Soviet period, Tajikistan organized an exhibition of national economic achievements in Algeria. Graduates of the Arabic Department of Tajik State University and the French Department of Dushanbe State Pedagogical University contributed to Soviet–Algerian cooperation by serving as translators in relevant institutions.
From 10 to 12 March 2008, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, paid an official visit to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. During the visit, bilateral relations were discussed at a meeting between His Excellency Emomali Rahmon and His Excellency Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, followed by expanded talks between the official delegations of the two countries.
Upon the conclusion of the visit, four bilateral documents were signed in the presence of the Heads of State.
