Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the State of Brunei Darussalam were established on 2 June, 2004. Embassy of Brunei Darussalam in Tajikistan has its residence in Moscow, Russia.
From 3 to 4 April 2010 the Founder of Peace and National Unity, Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan made a state visit to the State of Brunei Darussalam. During the visit the both sides held talks at the highest level. The result was a series of signed 4 documents were signed on the basis of multilateral cooperation in the field of trade and investment, further cooperation and abolition of visa requirements.
During the official visit on December 8, 2009 the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan held meetings with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Development, Director of the Agency for Investments, Secretary General of the Committee for Economic Development, Minister of Industry and Minister of Internal Affairs of the State of Brunei Darussalam.
On May 19 to 20, 2010 in the framework of the 37-th meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Dushanbe, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brunei Darussalam visited Dushanbe.
On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held on May 29, 2019 in the city of Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan met with the Second Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Brunei-Darussalam.
The legal framework of the two countries accounts 4 interstate and intergovernmental agreements.
Trade turnover between Tajikistan and Brunei in 2018 amounted to one hundred thousand U.S. dollars.
