Inscription of the nomination

From the November 26 to  December 1, 2018, the 13th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO took place in the city of Port Louis of the Republic of Mauritius with the participation of representatives of UNESCO Member States. During this Session, discussions were held on the proposed nominations of the intangible cultural heritage of the Member States, and were officially announced those nominations, which met all the requirements of the Convention for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.

The General Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO, Zulfiya Burkhon, and the Deputy Director of the Cultural Research and Information Center of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Tajikistan and the author of the nomination "Chakan - art of embroidery in the Republic of Tajikistan" Dilshod Rakhimi participated at the Session. This nomination was accepted in view of the five requirements and conditions noted in the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural Heritage.

The official inscription of "Chakan - art of embroidery in the Republic of Tajikistan" to the World Cultural Heritage List was proclaimed by the Chairman of the World Heritage Committee, Mr. Roopun Prithvirajsing. He noted that to protect and popularize the heritage of ancestors and present folk art, the rich and ancient culture of the Tajik people in international arena is one of the important achievements.

It should be noted that there was held an exhibition of different types of Tajik “Chakan” in the Session building, where 800 participants from 120 countries from all over the world had participated.
